First off, where are all the runway pictures for this week? They don’t seem to be anywhere, and it’s really annoying.

Anyway, in my experience, there are primarily two kinds of drag queens- queens that are pretty much the same in and out of drag, and queens that play a character when they’re in drag. For instance, RuPaul is RuPaul both in and out of drag, whereas Sharon Needles is a character separate from her out of drag boy self. Both forms of drag are totally fine and valid, but the queens that play a character have a bit of an advantage over other queens in acting challenges like the one they had to do this week. Sharon is always in character in drag, and she’s even in character out of drag whenever any of the judges are in the same room as her. Consequently, despite her worries about her performance, it was relatively easy to apply a script to the character that she’s already established. The queens that don’t play a character, or are inexperienced at playing characters, had greater difficulty with this challenge (see DiDa Ritz and the Princess for examples).

That’s not to say that all the queens that don’t play a character in drag did horribly. Phi Phi and Willam don’t seem to be that much different in and out of drag, but they too did well this week, which isn’t that surprising given that Willam is a professional actor and Phi Phi is very polished. Polish and experience certainly help with challenges like this one, but Sharon really shined this week because she’s always in character and has thoroughly honed the character that she plays. Phi Phi herself said that was why she picked her- regardless of how she described Sharon’s character, she was right in that Sharon plays it very well.

As for the runway look, I loved the jacket and hated the hair, though that may just be my personal preferences at play. I feel like the pompadour was a little too masculine, but overall I think the look worked and Sharon was wise to pick a non obviously creepy look for her runway to compensate for how over-the-top creepy she was during the main challenge. Versatility is really important for marketability’s sake, and it’s really important for a queen, especially one with such a niche schtick like Sharon, to show versatility to Ru.

And I’m ashamed to say that I only just got the “sharing needles” pun that is Sharon’s name. I’m special, I know.

Those “big pink boxes” mean tears and heartache. The show is gutbusting and Untucked is heartwrenching. Fuck you, RuPaul, making me cry over a reality show.

I’m sure she’d approve.

Sharon wins. Even if she doesn’t win RPDR, she still wins. Flawless bitch is flawless.

I like her personality (and she seems to have a good, sensible head on her shoulders), but her look was pretty busted this week. Like I said, I think she has the goods to be gorgeous, but from what I’ve seen on the show, she needs more polish and experience. RuPaul is kind of an old school queen, and if one of her girls on the show can’t deliver in the glamour department, they’re not going to last very long in the competition. There’s a reason that the first two winners were practically Ru clones.
